Be patient!

Hello..

The lesson for today:

BE PATIENT!!! These kinds of culture do happen, not what you had expected to have one side only. Really an inexperienced person (sigh! talking about myself and blabbing here paiseh)
How come so irrational today ah? :(
Please weigh PROs and CONs first =.= (I did, but insufficient)
Probably because of that fiery message I sent to someone in the morning for not keeping promises..

So desperate meh?? Oh well, it's something to remember in years to come but I really can't afford any mistakes to be taken as experiences at the moment... I wasn't always in this situation because I am quite a patient person, but today's (JUST ONLY) occasion would be labelled not as pro-active, but rather as desperate lorrrr...

Hopefully didn't get minus mark :/

I should take it as 'die die lah' as I had been in this mode for a long time since my graduation. Maybe because of mood changes ah? Haihz...no reasons can substitute my erm, over-reaction for today =.="

Happppy eat dumpling day!!!

Picture explains all...
Landlady warmed and removed leaves for me to prevent oiliness on my hands... See, that's why I always get touched :(
Food and heart bribery from her...:/

If you notice the second picture of dumplings (Zhang) carefully, there are three types here: Kee zhang, bak Zhang (pork dumpling) and nyonya Zhang. Kee is the yellow type and plain one, and is auntie landlady's favorite.. She bought for me once and I had to swallow it fast fast coz I don't like it..
Nyonya is the sweet type and also not my favorite lol..

And also learned tht different types of leaves are used for these.. Only pandan leaves are for Kee Zhang.. The rest are imported leaves from china, according to auntie landlady..

For the history on why we eat rice dumplings, pls read up yourself...

P/s: I'm late for work!!

learning is a bliss..to me

Well, the title says it all;)

We visited a children's home today at Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home..
And the children did practically scare us (maybe me and C, and perhaps other volunteers) because they were really active and noisy.. And some, cheeky as well..
Lol
C was saying " No wonder my best friend didn't want to have children". I can see that this fella is afraid of children XP
Well, to be frank, after entertaining them, I felt really tired too... and was missing my dog miles away.
Concurrently, I felt bitter to see so many sort-of abandoned, without parents or some with certain backgrounds in which we have never encountered and should really feel thankful...

We were first briefed by their staff that the home's name was derived from Dr. Chen Su Lan; and his funds was also used in setting up this huge children place that currently holds 88 children.

First, it was ice breaking..holding hands in 3-somes and changing partners
The girls were really shy of the already-not-many-guys though..Anyway, it was pretty :) :) =D lah

Then, we went on to balloon sculpturing and I'm surprised that the cute poodle dog was quite well-made by C despite only learned a day eh..But I didn't manage to learn it completely because I was then non-stop entertaining other children in blowing and tying the balloons =.="
Anyway, I did overcome my slight fear of balloon popping..heehee
Repeat: learning is a bliss ah~!

Some other children that weren't comfortable with balloons were given the chance to colour. I handled one that started to play balloon and then decided to colour. She was quite 'guai' (obedient), and was asking my opinions to colour the dinosaur. I then drew a pig on her drawing paper so that she could colour it later as well. She even asked me if she could bring the colour pencils back to her room and I said yes. Reminded me of my previous experiences in MINDS...there was a girl who kept keeping the printed drawings in her pocket non-stop

Well, I should have brought my drawing blocks along but I was really late today..sigh
Late for quite sometime somemore... *embarassed but wasn't scolded heh heh...

But when it was finishing time, I felt it was really too short. The event lasted for only 2 h in fact. I left wandering on bus (didn't want to be back early since the day is still really early!) and decided to accomplish my next mission.....

Ta daaaa~

Finally!! :D
Actually, I was having some down moments since yesterday night and then this morning: due to a minor clash with my collaborator but it should be clear that it was neither any of his or my fault..
It was just a useless project...
But I felt really wasted of my time. Thankfully, I was doing another person's project at the same time or I would feel that that week was a total waste..7 days of non-stop late nights and working..plus two pushy emails... tsk tsk tsk...*shake head

Anyway, after spending hours in the music store, the rejuvenated feeling was really good. Though it would feel much better if that someone also stayed there..oh well...they had a very late night yesterday... :/

So long~

P/S: Listening to the songs now...wishing I have a very good audio system to blast it but..hmmmm

Hapy nEw YeAr!! A new year, new beginning,,

Happy new year 2011!!!

This is a year where most of us of my age will flashbacks our 1/4 century days, and either feel very emo, or emo about it..okay, not forgetting those that would be glad too- for those that had accomplished one of many life missions :)

I'm sure many would be emo, especially those in singledom
I didn't mean to start this note with an emo note, but I want to say here is, to you all out there who felt the same like me: Don't give up!

This is a year we all should be:
  1. Make realistic resolutions
  2. Be more courageous, time to do what we should, feel what we should, try what we hadn't, set a new path/ direction in life
  3. No more lagging or losing motivations because this is an age where we're considered good enough for most things!
  4. Those single ones, time to think seriously, get into relationships, grab chances, find the right person!
  5. Those attached ones, start thinking: is this the right person? If yes, proceed, if not, better move on. It's always better to break and find someone right rather than keep dragging the sad relationship because couldn't bear to be single
  6. More travelling!! Time to look out more! This is one of the age we get to do most of what we want to, though with financial hardships. But we can always travel and spend wisely.. right? Rather than to save save and later, still..save but going nowhere? Imagine an attached life with families, I bet there'll be less reasons to travel more (at least for those with baby kids)
  7. Play and work hard!!
  8. Instead of waiting, we should be the ones that move forward, regardless in anything.. so keep motivated!
  9. Those who want to earn more money? Time for serious investments :)
Wish you guys good luck in everything!!
I hope you guys will give a happy and satisfying answer when you ask yourselves 25 more years later, what have i done in my first 1/2 of life..

Happy new year, once again!! :)

Happy CNY!!

Hehe..before I leave for home, better leave a footprint here... hAppY Chinese New Year!!!

Going to have a good rest at home.
In fact, I didn't feel the mood earlier until today morning. Btw, I already got the 3rd Angpow already! =P So fast hor?
And I also got a stack of empty angpows from my landlady! (she asked those to be given to my mom since she can't use those as she's not married yet)

Got one angpow over here and two more back at home by one of our distanced relatives. Growing up older each year, the mood of getting angpow is less and less..probably because we see people of our age are already giving angpows and we are still (thick-face) in receiving it..(But in my family, we do give angpows to our parents and grandparents in return and as appreciation since all of us literally have jobs already)
In fact didn't want to receive angpows anymore because we are no longer kids- but if you act too 'po ma', people would feel uncomfortable also..
So just take it lo =P

Anyway, Happy happy ChiNeSe nEw yEaR and may all starts well and ends well too!!

Picture taken from here =)

So long~ Happy holidays!!
P/S : happy Valentine's Day too!

Fort Siloso trip

This is my third time into Sentosa I think. Catching this opportunity, I've decided to visit sites I've never explored in here..

Fyi, I've never entered the Underwater World yet!!

Was so tempted but due to insufficient time, we've only managed to go into Fort Siloso.

Somehow, entering the fort gave me a post-war feeling- something like bitterness, regret and sadness that I've never felt before this when entering museums (back in KL). It's really time to be thankful for our era do not have war *keeping our finger crossed*

The war shouldn't have taken place at all. People will not have suffered and died. Buildings will not have collapsed. Blood will not be used as a compensation in exchange for goods and money and land.

Sigh, innocent thinking.. but really, after visiting the fort, I really could feel the anger towards the Japanese!

The 'Nomads' of Fort Siloso..Many little monkeys!

One of the soldiers..probably thinking of his loved one..I wonder if he had returned safely..

Canons
This was during the surrender event..between British and Japanese

May things get better and better always =)

Year-end trips at Orchard Road

Again marathon on blogging because after this week, I would probably stop blogging since I'm going back for a long rest. Overall, I have spent nearly a year here, with lots of ups and downs, memories and expectations, fluctuating emotions and many more..

Looking back, I couldn't deny how fast time flies..
I wonder how much I've changed during this time and how much positive changes that I've seen..

Forgive me for starting with kind of negative note but..let me voice out here..
I've received many setbacks this year
It had been a hard year for me
Had many tears but also many laughters
Many disappointments but also many new surprises
Many expected and unexpected things around..

I'm hoping to make things more simple :) Don't want that complicated anymore.. Hate that way of how things go..

I've finally walked the infamous Orchard street last weekend. I was like "Ohhhhh, it looks like this..."
My friend was like "Wah la...your first Xmas here isit??"
I nodded and smiled "Yeah yeah!!"
Then I was a bit disappointed..

It was during that outing that made me realised many tiny things. Things aren't always as good as what people say...the grass is never greener at the other side..
When I was walking along it, I don't feel that it's that grand, in fact. It's comparable to what I've seen back in my country too..

Or perhaps, it's who that we go with matters the most?

May all your dreams come true soon!

Dr. Wan's visit @ Esplanade

My week after exams had been more hectic than I've ever imagined..
But it was fun after all..
Dr. Wan was here for a course and we went 'rebonding' session by 'jalan-jalan'.

I am not a good tour guide myself, in fact. So I brought her to Esplanade and Bugis and some shopping malls that we have come across..

What surprised me was that she brought along her new Canon S90!! I was so thrilled! Imagine holding up and getting warmed up with these two cameras (LX3 the day before and this one later!) that are currently on my 'wish-and-observation list'! She was promoting and I was like "Which oneee lah Dr???" Lol!

I never knew that she is another avid photographer..

At Esplanade.. balls floating! My first Xmas here =)

A cute bear-bear theme along the way to Esplanade

We had a great time chatting and I had a great time listening to her stories too =)
I had much better time using her camera..hehe..

Happy Birthday Lee Geok & Merry Xmas!!

As most of the pictures are in her camera, I could only post a not-so-relevant picture here to indicate her birthday celebration with upcoming Christmas.

So, there you go =)

Wishing you a happy happy birthday!

At Jewelbox, moments before we left to catch the shuttle bus

Merry Christmas to all too!

Raffles marina sunset

Confession: I'm supposed to be in the lab but conditions don't allow me to be there so I'm loittering here..

Though I can't fail to admit that since the Pink event (I named it in conjunction to an unforgettable event in years to come that took place on Nov 18), the jokes are still ongoing..really reminded me of those good ol' days teasing events..

Last Friday, our bosses treated us for year-end dinner at this-very-near-to-Johor classy restaurant..
It's Chinese-cooked style dishes as usual :)

Before we proceeded to fill our stomachs, we did some-sight seeing and claim ownerships to various sailing boats there..

Technically speaking, each of us wanted to sell off the smaller ones and are currently owning the bigger ones :P
The beautiful sunset

The jetty

The sun and the sea!

This was what some people did to others while sight-seeing..

Lunch's welcoming gift

I can't believe my luck in getting this close to this tree!! It had captured my attention months ago because it had been blooming with full of purple flowers but with very very very few leaves. I don't know what it's called but it's been there since I moved into the new room. So, every morning whenever I board the bus to my department, I would be glancing at that tree (because seconds after the bus passes the tree in front of University Hall, I would have to unboard the bus). So whenever I see that tree, I would tell myself, "must take picture of the tree before the flowers being blown away, must must...- but procrastination, you see:P). Then, weeks later, by the time I was determined to do so, the flowers were gone. How disappointed was I...

One week ago, while we were going to lunch (@ NUH), suddenly a thin tree full of purple flowers bloomed! I was so :D :D *mouth opens wide* Can't believe that there's another one here and the flowers are just as tall as me! The earlier tree at University Hall was just too high up that I wouldn't be able to get this close also!

Quickly, I get my camera and snapped on the same evening..Now, ta daaaa....

Mooncake and Deepavali Celebrations @ YIH

GSS (Graduate Student's Society) had this Mid-autumn mooncake and Deepavali celebrations at the newly renovated YIH. The first stall we saw was this friendly man who taught us how to tie jasmine flowers knots. It was a great experience for us :D

There he is, showing us how and letting us to have 'hands-on' experiences.

How to wear turbans section

Chinese Calligraphy session..we wrote our names since we were bananas

Ohh..and this very very niceee one..henna hand dye!!
But my boss saw and was shocked! He thought it got acid burned or some accidents before he looked closely at it.

I curi-curi take picture with my gloves on- the motifs are still there! My labmates shook their head..

And this ..one of China's traditional costume..

They had traditional food session, tanglung (lantern) making session, peeling pomelo competition, Chinese Wushu performances and Indian Classical Dance.
Pretty interesting..

Small meet-up

WT, XQ and I met up yesterday. I think it has been almost 7 years since we've last met up. I was initially worried, I mean- 3 people, and some of us who couldn't click at all back then could meet up here - in such a small place ( Sg ) and talked bad about ( not revealing ...... :P)

And coincidentally CS actually arranged another Form 6 reunion at the same time and I missed it again.

Anyway, I felt really appreciative after meeting them. I mean, they're staying pretty far away , have work shifts and tonnes of work (that I heard that it's very usual for them to go back home every day after the cleaning lady comes at 10pm) and their effort to make this small meet-up a success was really sweet. (Reminds me of my Form 6 reunion when I went back weeks ago :D) In fact, to plan this small gathering took us one month!

As they always say, people change, things change, whatever it is, but definitely, time passes so quickly. Hearing how they struggle in the current workforce and dealing with everyday-life-is-like-that-or-worst situation makes me think hard. I don't know if it's because of the culture that changed certain people to like that.

It's like being forced to become like that but one is not accepting the forces to change, or perhaps slowly adopting it. Newton's law or whatever law just doesn't work. So in the end, that party struggles.

Bad? Good? I don't know. I still can see the coping-up stage of her though she's here for so many years already.

I just realised that many of us are like that.

Happy White Valentine's Day!!

Again, I'm a little bit late to post this up but the day has not ended yet;)

Happy White Valentine's Day!

This is a special day mainly celebrated in Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Today is the day whereby the males will give present to their partners in return of the Valentine's gifts they received exactly a month ago. The presents given to her must be more expensive, and sometimes the term sanbai gaeshi (literally, "thrice the return") is used to describe the generally recited rule that the return gift should be two to three times the cost of the Valentine's gift he received a month ago from her.

As for the singles in South Korea, there's Black Day which is celebrated on 14th April,- yep, one month from now. On this day, the singles will eat Jajangmyeon (white noodle with black soy sauce) as a sign of 'singledom'.

Anyone interested in eating it?

Happy Women's Day!!

Happy Women's Day!!

If you're wondering what am I blabbing on, please read this
Hope I'm not too late to post this: still early by approximately 1 and 1/2 hours..
Though I do agree with what someone had told me on "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman" :P

And just saw this..
Cheers!!
Too bad, the 'International Men's day' is still far away..

So long ~~~
